The World Cup and ICT’s

As the world cup is on at the moment in brazil, I find it fascinating to see all the ICT’s evident whilst watching the game. These ICT’s consist of the cameras that take pictures of the game for media sources around the world, the huge screens inside the stadium that gives the crowd replays and the also the game to watch if they can not see from their seat and the all the ICT’s used to bring Australia the game live on the TV with commentary. Keeping this in mind imagine all of the ICT’s being used. However its not only the big ICT’s that are evident what about the referees watch to keep the time, the microphone and ear piece that is worn to contact his assistants and the 4th officials board that indicates how the injury time. Without these ICT’s would their even be a world cup. http://www.news.com.au/sport/football/live-blog-today-at-the-2014-fifa-world-cup-featuring-australia-v-chile-netherlands-v-spain-and-mexico-v-cameroon/story-fnkjl6g2-1226954080812 this is a news source that uses pictures from the world cup games to help tell their story. Without these pictures the news story would be boring as their would be no video evidence or pictures to prove the game was played without the ICT. A fellow EDC 3100 student http://jakeframpton.wordpress.com/ also has great ideas on how ICT’s are incorporated in life and at school.

Different ICT’s and how to use them in lessons.

As I learnt on professional experience the world is your oyster, when teaching you can come up with almost anything to help the students learn in different ways to keep them engaged. This also works with the implementation of ICT’s in the lesson as long as the same desired result is reached. https://sites.google.com/a/myport.ac.uk/using-ict-in-education/types-of-ict-tools this site states most of the different ICT’s that are available to teachers to use in lessons. However most of these are very hard to use when teaching Physical Education. Some of these ICT tools can be used effectively if implemented properly and planned for to achieve the desired result of the lesson. However I did learn that a very simple ICT’s can be very effective in teaching and it does not have to be a huge ICT that influences the lesson. A fellow EDC 3100 student who is also completing Physical education major found it tough to incorporate ICT’s into a 30 minute lesson and raises very good points in his blog about the reasons why http://jakeframpton.wordpress.com/.

Ict’s and implemting them into my context.

I found implementing ICT’s into the physical education context very challenging. This was a challenge due to the time constraints in the lesson of only having 30 minutes to teach and put across the key learning areas to the students. I needed to strategically plan for the use of the ICT and ensure it assisted with the lesson outcome. http://www.mpict.org/ict_education_defined_importance.html this website explains why ICT’s are important when teaching. I believe it provides variety for the students and provides different ways to get the desired result. It also allows students to be involved with different tools that they may not have had experience with before or may not use ever again after this lesson. A fellow EDC 3100 student http://isabellairvine.wordpress.com/ also has views on how ICT can be implemented in the classroom setting and I found this interesting compared to the Physical Education setting I am in.

ICT’s and jobs

Does the introduction of ICT’s in this era create jobs? I believe that the introduction of ICT’s does create jobs in the world and gives people different opportunities to be involved with ICT’s within their jobs. Ict’s create jobs for people who sell them, technicians that fix them, and people that create them and so on. However ICT’s are used by people in different jobs as well, and people are either trained how to use them or have completed courses and practiced to use them effectively at their jobs. Teachers use a wide range of ICT’s in their job and should be given some technical guidance through courses or peer teaching on how to effectively engage students with content using certain devices. http://www.worldbank.org/en/news/press-release/2013/09/10/icts-are-creating-new-jobs-and-making-labor-markets-more-innovative-inclusive-and-global-world-bank-study this website has a brief description of how ICT’s are enabling the world to transform and give people jobs. Another fellow EDC 3100 http://benbpt.wordpress.com/student also gives great details as to how important ICT’s are in the teaching world.

ICT difficulties

Can ICT’s be relied on all the time? I believe that ICT’s can not be relied on one hundred percent of the time as there is always technical difficulties no matter what device or ICT tool you may be using. To be able to use ICT’s effectively there needs to be a required amount of teaching and practicing on the device to be able to put it into a lesson in case of a technical difficulty. In learning about the ICT you should also be taught how to negotiate a technical problem such as a program not opening, the saved data being corrupted or just as simple as a loss of connection. All of these can throw a lesson out of whack so therefore there always needs to be a back up plan if the ICT does not work which can happen frequently This website http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/ICT_in_Education/Key_Challenges_in_Integrating_ICTs_in_Education gives an insight into how to intergrate ICT’s into teaching and how to negotiate technical problems. A fellow EDC 3100 student http://isabellairvine.wordpress.com/ also makes reference to how to implement ICT’s effectively in a classroom environment.

Importance of Email.

How important and reliant everybody is on using the email. Imagine the world without the ICT tool Email, which stands for electronic mail. This is used to converse with friends, family work colleagues or to obtain information from groups or online purchases etc. However most importantly it is used frequently as teacher through out the day at school. This is how teacher’s like to make contact with each other and how the principal can make quick and easy contact with a teacher regarding various issues. Not only does this allow teachers to make contact with each other but allows them to send attachments to each other such as lesson plans, content being covered if they are the same year level teachers and so on. This shows important the email has become in our era and if utilized correctly by teachers can be a very handy tool in which to engage and learn from other teacher’s with. This website displays how important it is to use an email as a teacher to gain peer support from others http://spi.sagepub.com/content/33/2/167.abstract . A fellow EDC 3100 student http://psmithy81.wordpress.com/ also has great ideas on how important ICT’s are and how to implement them correctly for the most effective outcomes.

A-league growing through ICT’s

Over the past weekend the final of the Australian soccer league was played commonly known as the A-League. This match featured The Brisbane Roar and the Western Sydney Wanderers. This game was aired live around Australia through the station of fox sports which is on pay television. This game was not only aired live to the Australian audience but to other countries around the world. This could not be done without the use of an ICT. In this case there are plenty of ICT’s evident when this particular occasion occurs to give the audience the opportunity to view the game and also expand the Australian league to other countries. By doing this it helps the game grow and brings in dollars to the game to expand and better the league. This can not be done without the use of ICT’s as there would be nothing to even film the game or commentate the game with. This site explains how many people were expected to watch the match. http://www.couriermail.com.au/sport/football/over-250-million-people-expected-to-tune-in-to-aleague-grand-final-on-television/story-fnk6pqhe-1226902635236. Over 250 million people to watch the Australian grand final of soccer is a staggering and unreal figure considering the competiton has only been up and running for 9 years. The A-league should be stoked at this figure and will be thankful to the ICT’s that we have available to us in this era to show and cover live events. Another EDC3100 student http://benbpt.wordpress.com/ has great ideas about sports and using ICT’s with in them.

I am a Brisbane roar fan and yes they did win a close final 2-1 in extra time. Yes!! 3 wins from 3 grand final appearances. Can’t wait for the next season to start!

Ict’s in tennis

Again this week drew me to ICT’s in sport and how they can affect a sport and make it interesting for fans and make contentious calls judges correctly and in the right manner. This helps the players to not dispute calls and keeps their mind on the game. The sport that has influenced me to wright this blog is tennis. The ICT being used in this sport is Hawkeye, this particular ICT gives players the opportunity to contest tight calls and ensure the right decision is called by the umpire or linesman. Over major tournaments this ICT becomes an integral part of match’s especially very tight matches that can be decided by a point here or there. This enables the players to focus on playing an trust the system to bring up any mistakes made and also enhances the game for spectators as the decisions are being made correctly and there is no calls that turn the match one way or another. This site gives a great incite into what hawkeye is and how it works as well as identifying other sports they use this ICT. http://www.hawkeyeinnovations.co.uk/page/sports-officiating/tennis Another EDC3100 student http://benbpt.wordpress.com/ has great ideas about sports and using ICT’s with in them.

ICT’s and Identifying them for students.

ICT’s need to be introduced to students in the classroom environment so they can enhance their knowledge and understand how to employ different ICT’s effectively to different aspects of life. This means if they are completing an assignment instead of writing it out show them how they can process it using an ICT and the ICT tool embedded. Students need to be made aware of the ICT’s that are in the world and ask them to imagine life without the ICT’s in the world. This will get them to think about how ICT’s are important in the world but what the effects would be I f they were not introduced into our world. This site explains how to deploy ICT’s in the classroom. http://inesm.education.unesco.org/files/TCO-deploying-framework.pdf. A fellow student in EDC 3100 http://psmithy81.wordpress.com/also has some great ideas and insights on how to introduce students to ICT’S.

Anzac Day and How ICT played a role.

Anzac Day made me realize how evident ICT’s are in the involvement of these special days. ICT’s are used to broadcast different services around Australia and the world. However not only do they need ICT tools to broad cast these events. They also need ICT tools to make the service inviting for the public to come and pay their respects. The ICT’s I’m talking about consists of microphone, speakers and lights to help the master of ceremonies any other speakers voices be clearly heard by everyone and as it is dawn the light is necessary so the speakers can see what they are reading. In this link here http://www.heraldsun.com.au/anzac-centenary/aussies-gather-at-gallipoli-for-anzac-day-dawn-service/story-fnmeodwa-1226895888407 it has picture of where the Anzac dawn service is held at Gallipoli. By this picture it is evident how ICT’s are used to enhance the service and make it a public friendly environment so they can pay their respects and take in every moment. As you can see there are big screens and lights set up for the public to view the service. This has relayed how much importance ICT’s have on our lives as they are required in nearly everything that we do in this era. A fellow students also has some interesting topics about how ICT’s effect the world. http://jesstri.wordpress.com/
